The Devon Sutton-Havard memorial trophy is at HOME where it belongs. The Jr men's Cubs have a great pair of games on Sunday. The semi final had the Cubs face PoCo - the teams were very well matched but Taylor Koenig was untouchable on the mound - his 4 strong innings gave way to Chris Buddee. Buddee pitched three strong innings and the bats did the talking as the cubs won 6-1.
The Final was against Newton rival (defending champs) Beavers.. The Beavers handed the Cobs an 8-1 loss in round robin play. The team put the ball in rookie thrower, Matt Gander's hands......He pitched a two hit gem in his 4 innings leaving the game at a 0-0 tie. The top of 5 saw the Cubs bats come alive and score 3 in the inning. Another rookie Sean Jackson entered the game and kept the hard hitting Newton squad at bay as he went 2 2/3 innings giving up one run.........the final out was a massive strike out by Lance Takacs with bases loaded.
The team played hard - and the cause (raising Money in Devons name) was great motivation for this very talented squad.
Next up for the Cubs is Sunday, July 4 verse Maple Ridge Mud Hens at 12:00 noon.
